Pearl of Great Price - Moses 7:1-15 - January 24, 2022
1/24/2022 – Moses 7:1-15
Enoch is speaking to the people, telling them that at the very beginning (seven generations ago) that “Adam taught these things, and many have believed and become the sons of God, and many have believed not, and have perished in their sins.” From that explanation, our time is not all that different from their time. But Enoch went forward, with great faith. He shares with us some of the reasons for that faith: In Mahujay he “cried unto the Lord, there came a voice out of heaven, saying, Turn ye, and get ye upon the mount Simeon.” (v2) Enoch did exactly as he was told, and in v’s 3-11 he tells us of what he learned upon that mountain.
V 3: He ‘beheld the heavens open, and I was clothed upon with glory.”
V4: “And I saw the Lord…and he talked with me, even as a man talketh one with another…and said unto me: Look, and I will show unto thee the world for the space of many generations.”
After seeing into the future, the good and the bad, “…the Lord said unto me: Go to this people, and say unto them—repent lest I come out and smite them ….And he gave unto me a commandment that I should baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, which is full of grace and truth, and of the Holy Ghost, which beareth record of the Father and the sone.” (v’s 10-11)
V 12 tells us: “And it came to pass that Enoch continued to call upon all the people…” (v 12
Elder Bruce R. McConkie said: “Faith is power; by faith the worlds were made; nothing is impossible to those who have faith. If the earth itself came rolling into existence by faith, surely a mere mountain can be removed by that same power.” And that is what Enoch proved as he continued to go forth in doing what the Lord had asked of him. “And so great was the faith of Enoch that he led the people of God” V 13. He lead them in the gospel, and he also lead them in battle as others came to fight them. He turned to the Lord and used his faith: as others came to destroy them in battle, Enoch “spake the word of the Lord, and the earth trembled, and the mountains fled, even according to his command; and the rivers of water were turned out of their course; and the roar of the lions was heard out of the wilderness; and all nations fared greatly, so powerful was the word of Enoch, and so great was the power of the language which God had given him.”(v13).
When the Lord first spoke with Enoch, Enoch was worried that he could not carry out the things the Lord had asked of him. He told the Lord he was ‘slow of speech’ and that he had weaknesses. But Enoch had faith, and went forward in faith to teach the people the words of God, and to lead the people as others came upon them to steal their land and their goods. And the “giants of the land” who had battled against them retreated and “stood afar off” (v 15).
Once again, I come back to Bruce R. McConkie’s statement: “Faith is power; by faith the worlds were made; nothing is impossible to those who have faith. If the earth itself came rolling into existence by faith, surely a mere mountain can be removed by that same power.”
I pray that each day I might see the Lord’s guidance in how I should use my time and efforts. And when hard things come before me, I come back to the Lord asking for His continued help, and then I take a deep breath and push forward ---hopefully in love and meekness—in those things that appear so good, but so difficult, for He will be near me & I can fall back on His love and His strength. There is much to learn about the power of faith, and the love of Heavenly Father.
