Old Testament - Isaiah 10 - 12 - September 9, 2022

9/9/2022 – Isaiah 10-12

Chapter 10’s synopsis: “Destruction of Assyria is a type of destruction of the wicked at the Second Coming---Few people shall be left after the Lord comes again—Remnant of Jacob shall return in that day”

Isaiah is telling all the things we should NOT do:

1. “Decree unrighteous decrees and write grievousness which they have prescribed: (v1)

2. To ignore the poor, and widows, and the fatherless (v2)

3. They realize they have no place to turn for help, and thus try to hide (v 3-4)

4. Become hypocritical (v 6)

5. Depend and worship idols (v10)…What are our idols??

6. Don’t think that the good we have done has been only our doing…instead of listening for the Lord and trying always to do His bidding, and remembering to thank him for His help and His love (13-17)

In v 20 the Lord tells us that our safe course is to “…stay upon the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.

In v 24 He tells us to be not afraid of what the world will bring, for bad things WILL happen. The Lord can take our burdens off of our shoulders, and the yoke from off our necks if we but go to Him, and do our very best to follow Him and His commandments. (v 27)

In v 32 the Lord tells us that when He comes the haughty shall be humbled. Wouldn’t it be wise for us to learn to live with humility now, before we are forced to do so. We could learn much by working on that!

Chapter 11 refers to the Christ’s second coming. I love v 2 “And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear (honoring) of the Lord.  That’s what the spirit of the Lord can do to all of us!

When Christ comes again He shall be of quick understanding…he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: but with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.”(v’s 3-4)

This will usher in the days when there is no evil and all people and all life on earth will live in harmony. There will be new growth for all and we will learn to become Christlike for ourselves.

Chapter 12 tells us something about the Millennium, when all people shall praise the Lord and He shall swell among them! V’s 2-4 tell us how we all will feel: “Behold, God is my salvation: I will trust and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; and also is become my salvation. Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation….In v 6:  “for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.”

The Millennium will happen in the future. If we live according to the Lord’s directions, we will be ready for that miraculous change…and hopefully be part of that miraculous change. In the meantime, we can find sweet peace in following His commandments, and deep joy in doing his commandments.
