Old Testament - Proverbs 15-16 - August 30, 2022

8/30/2022 - Proverbs 15-16

These proverbs are among those scriptures that offer counsel to us as to how better to gain wisdom and understanding. Just as 16:16 encourages with “How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!”

Another thing that is very good for us to remember: “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.” (15:1) And I have discovered, at least with myself, that anger seems to slow my rational thinking, which can easily cause one to make bad decisions.

15:8 reinforces the fact that “the prayer of the upright is His delight”, and those are prayers that the Lord can answer quickly as usually those who are ‘upright’ within the gospel, work to be aware of personal spiritual promptings.

15:16 “Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith.”

I always find things that I want to ask for in my prayers, but I hope to pay more attention to the fact that I simply feel the Lord’s love by working to keep His commandments, for that always makes my days brighter and more doable.

15:33 “The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.”

16:3 “Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.”

16:17 “The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.”

16:18 “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”

16:32 “He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.”
