Old Testament - Psalms 19-26 - August 9, 2022
8/9/2022 – Psalms 19-26
Psalm 19:7-8 was written by David. I love his statement: “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statues of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.”…and David ends with his plea to the Lord in v 14 “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.”
In Psalm 20 David cautions us about where to look for help in hard times: “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.” (v 7) He’s reminding us where sure help and safety can be found.
Psalm 23 is one that I continue to try to memorize: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”
Psalm 24 teaches us how to prepare for a visit to the temple, or to His coming back on earth: “Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who shall stand in his holy place? …He that hath clean hands and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.” (v’s 3-4
Psalm 25:12 , 21“What man is he that feareth the Lord? Him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose. His soul shall dwell at ease: and his see shall inherit the earth. The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant. … “Let integrity and uprightness preserve me…”
Psalm 26 shows David’s great faith in the Lord: “Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee. What man is he that feareth the Lord? Him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose. His soul shall dwell at ease: and his seed shall inherit the earth. The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant. “
