Old Testament - Psalms 49-51 - August 15, 2022
8/15/2022 – Psalms 49-51
In Psalm 49 the Lord assures us that wealth has nothing to do with our status when we leave this earth. It is our gaining understanding and wisdom, and I would think humility that will help us come back to the Lord with our earth lessons well learned and followed.
Psalm 50 speaks of the time the Lord will come to earth in glory. Then will come the time of our judgement. The Lord will be looking to see if we have made our covenants, and kept those covenants. (v6). We are to have offered unto God thanksgiving; and completed the vows we have made with Him. Our thanks given to the Lord are all part of our worshiping Him.
In v 15 He pleads with us to “Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.” And then He goes over the things we should NOT be doing: (v 17 we are not to hate instruction and cast his words behind us. V 18- we are not to be adulterers. V 19 we are not to speak evilly or deceitfully. V 20 we are not to speak against our brother or slander anyone.
V's 22-23: Instead, we are to worship and praise the Lord, for He is with us in our good times and our difficult times.
Psalm 51: v 2, speaks of how our desire for repentance will bring us closer to our Father. I am so thankful when I look back on my day and I find that I had not handled something well, or when I have inadvertently mishandled something. And I can go to Him and clear things up. My concern is when I am ignorant of doing something that was wrong or hurtful. I pray for Him to gently open my eyes to any wrongs I have done so that I can come to Him in repentance.
V 10 assures us that repentance will “create in me a clean heart…and renew a right spirit within me.” This is the blessing of repentance. V 12: It “Restores unto me the joy of thy salvation; and upholds me with thy free spirit.” V19 assures us that our sacrifices of righteousness is what pleases the Lord, and what enables Him to reach us more quickly when that is needed.
