Old Testament - Ezekiel 47 - October 27, 2022

10/27/2022 – Ezekiel 47

Ezekiel was given a vision from the Lord, and near the end of that vision, the Lord brought Ezekiel to the doors of the temple, and there here he saw water flowing out from under the temple, and flowing into the Dead Sea. The waters that flowed were clean and they healed the Dead Sea which before the waters came, could not sustain plant nor animal life. In v 7, Ezekiel saw that on the edges of the waters that were flowing from the temple, many trees were growing—for the water had brought with it all the things that would provide for growth. V 9 starts this way: “And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live…” This shows us the blessings that what can happen to us as we go to the temple: “The blessings of the temple heal and give life to those who keep the sacred covenants they make in the temple.”

V 11 tells us that in this marvelous change in the Dead Sea, “…the miry places thereof and the marishes thereof shall not be healed…” We have to be in the clear water to experience the cleansing.  And then in v 12 we learn that the trees on the banks of the river “shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit…because the waters that issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.”

V 22 goes on with the description: “...and to the strangers that sojourn among you, which shall beget children among you: and they shall be unto you as born in the country among the children of Israel; they shall have inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel.” There will be enough for all. This is our way to our eternal life, and one of the joys is that we can be able to help nourish and heal others.
