Old Testament - Hosea 10-12 - November 9, 2022

11/9/2022 – Hosea 10-12

Hosea continued to call the Israelites to return to the Lord and His commandments. He explained that the Lord uses prophets to guide His people, and that’s exactly what Hosea did: chapter 10 v 12: “Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.” Hosea is trying to get them to turn around, and come back to the Lord and get to work! It takes work now! The results of our actions and our efforts make a tremendous difference in our lives. He explains to them again and again: “Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity…” (v 13)

In Chapter 11, Hosea reminds them of how the Lord helped them out of their bondage in Egypt. He reminds them that the Lord is always there, we simply need to reach out to Him, and He has told us exactly how to do that. He shows them their mistakes: “though they called them to the most High, none at all would exalt him.” (v 7)

In Chapter 12 Hosea continues to work with the Israelites. He reminds them that the Lord uses His prophets and visions to guide his people, but if they will not come to Him, and thus not respond to His teachings, then He cannot help them. Hosea also teaches them, and reminds them of all that the Lord has done for them, and for those that came before them. “Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.” (v 6) I think that’s an excellent plan for our daily living!
