11/26/2022 – Micah 6-7
Chapter 6
The Lord is working through Micah to help the people understand that they have forgotten the help and the goodness that the Lord brought into their lives, and they have also forgotten that the Lord can help them so much more when they are already living justly--according to the commandments He has given them, now and in the past, which has them (and us) showing love, and mercy to one another in daily living, and “walking in humility before him”.
He tells us all plainly in v 8 the three things that are most important for us to do: “…and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God.” That’s our sacrifice to Him, and that sacrifice serves to help us grow closer to Him every day we live up to His requests.
After telling them [and us] of how He wants us all to live, He then takes time to speak of the hard things that will enter our lives if we fall into wickedness, if we try to deceive others, if we fall into violence, deceits and lies. These difficult times he speaks would come upon us are 1) we would eat, yet not be satisfied, 2) we would sow, but not reap, we would “tread the olives, but thou shalt not anoint thee with oil or sweet wine”…and we would be, and feel, desolate.
We must remember that if we desire to come unto the Lord and worship Him, then we must love and serve Him with all our hearts.
Chapter 7
In chapter 7 He tells us how to live closer to His requests. Verse 3 tells us that we should do good for the reward of doing good! V 5 tells us that before we start something, we must first study it out in our own minds—thus we are making our own decisions instead of relying on someone else. Verse 7 tells us to be patient in our faith: “…I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.” Sometimes the Lord answers us right away, but often He gives us enough time to learn for ourselves. Verse 9 reminds us that the Lord is always there ready to be a part of our lives. Verse 9 tells us that when we make mistakes, then we go to Him and work to walk in His light again.
And in v 19 He assures us that as we strive to grow closer to him, “He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.” Basically, it boils down to Keep My Commandments. He’s given us a plain map with lots of instructions, all we have to do is to read that map and follow it.
